How to make a video for your business?


Have you ever been wondering how to make a video for your business? Did you know that it is easier than you think? Well, you just have to follow some rules, be dedicated and be as creative as Matt Groening, Steven Spielberg or Walt Disney – just kidding – obviously, the most important thing is that you create quality content -this content has less than 10 seconds to catch viewer’s attention-.


First, you have to invest time in Pre-Production, if you do not spend enough time planning, you are planning to fail and should not complain about the result. Give time to plan everything thoroughly, set the objectives of the video, write, check and approve the script, get the proper equipment, use people from your company or hire someone if you have to, delegate responsibilities to the people involved in the project and practice before the recording starts, because once the camera is turned on, everything must work as a Swiss watch.


Second, comes Production. This is where you have to take care of the sound, lighting, camera and make-up, so, with sound you have to be very careful because a good audio is the main difference between a shoddy video and a professional one, use a professional microphone and a filter to smooth out the recording -a teleprompt can work if you have to do a speech right in front of the camera-. Use warm lights (yellow) above, so, you do not look like a ghost and white lights to look bright, test the angle of them to give the best view of what you are recording – do not waste too much time on it-. The camera can be as simple as the one from your phone or as high-end as an ultra-high definition camera. You should use a stabilizer when you are recording -be careful with camera focus-. A little tip, if you need different backgrounds, consider recording using a green or blue screen. Lastly, blemishes, pimples, and greasy skin can be distracting to the viewer, so do not hesitate to use makeup –it will make it look professional-.


Last but not least, Post-Production. This is where you edit and create your masterpiece, it is also where you test it with an audience. Editing might sound discouraging and complicated -it can be-, but if you are brave enough and consistent yo can do it! If you do not know anything about video editing, do not worry, there are simple and easy-to-use applications that might work for you; like iMovie for Mac, MovieMaker for Windows, WeVideo Online and if you want to add animations or cartoons you can use PowToon and Animoto Online. If you want to look more professional, you can use Adobe products like Premiere and After Effects. After editing ask your friends, relatives or your customers to give you their opinions on the video, take into account their feedback to make it look better.


Finally, you can upload the video to YouTube, Vimeo or any other video sharing website, then add it to your website by framing it and share it on all your social networks. Do not forget to use keywords to title the video, because it will help the online viewers to find it.
